There is no shortage of great places to stay in Toronto. Here are a few of our favourite picks.
Staying Downtown? The Courtyard by Marriott hotel is comfortable, centrally located, and priced reasonably, especially given its prime location for seeing the sights and getting around. It gets great reviews on TripAdvisor. Rates are about $120 CDN/night, with the opportunity to save even more using your AAA or CAA card. This hotel is about a $15 cab ride from the reception venue, or 10 minutes on the subway (at $3 a ride).
Planning to Party All Night? If staying very close to the reception venue is more your style, there is no end of options in Toronto’s central business district – although many tend to be a little pricier. Still, we were surprised to see a pretty good deal at Toronto’s iconic Royal York hotel: under $200 a night if you pay in advance, and just over to upgrade to the “bed and breakfast” package. The Royal York is literally just around the block from our reception venue – no subways or cabs necessary! It appears that AAA/CAA rates are also available here. And like the Courtyard Marriott, its location right on the subway line lets you get to the church or anywhere else you wish without too much hassle.
Off The Beaten Path? It’s not for everyone, but another iconic Toronto hotel destination that won’t break the bank is the very hip Drake Hotel, located on Queen St. West near Dufferin. Rooms are small (consider yourself warned) – but each has been individually decorated by a local artist, and are very, very cool. There is a considerable amount of night and day life in this area, and is a perfect spot to explore some independent art galleries and sample some great food. Rooms start at $189, and your best bet for access is via streetcar: about 30-40 minute ride from the reception venue (and longer to the church).
Staying Near John’s Parents? We recommend the Inverness B&B, located a 10 minute walk away from Carmen and Alex’s home and offering several comfy rooms at similarly comfy prices, starting around $100. Emily used to live in this neighbourhood, and her parents stayed at the Inverness frequently when visiting her, and can vouch for the friendliness of the innkeeper, and the cleanliness, comfort and value of the rooms. Not only is this B&B close to John’s parents – it is also close to the subway line (High Park Stiation) and beautiful High Park, for those who like a little woods with their wedding.
